Miss Rock's Accelerated Reading Awards

1st May 2020

Well done to all of the boys and girls in Primary 5 and Primary 6 who have continued to complete brilliant work on our Accelerated Reading Program. I understand it is more difficult to find books at home or online for Accelerated Reading during this time but you really have blown me away with your huge effort! As a class, you read a total of 48 books altogether this week. As a class, you read 725,588 words, well done!

A number of pupils have also achieved exceptionally high word counts throughout the week:

Primary Five

Ellen McKenna – 127, 272 words

Sean Mallon – 77, 577 words

Oisin Coyle – 54, 852 words

Eva Toal – 50, 495 words

Lily McElvanna – 44, 624 words

Primary Six

Tara Gray – 64,095 words

Aoibhriona Grimley – 62,524 words

Philip Carr – 56,865 words

I’m delighted to see our first Primary Six pupil to reach his target is Philip Carr. Well done for reaching your target in record time Philip and you managed to maintain a very high accuracy throughout! Ellen McKenna has now tripled her target and is on 364.4%. Ellen is also very close to becoming a triple word millionaire! I think this would set a new record in the school!

This week, I really couldn’t decide between three girls in Primary Five for the star reader award so I’ve decided to give the star reader award to all three of the girls. Well done to ... Lily McElvanna, Annie Smith and Eabhí Woods!!

Lily McElvanna has been working steadily towards reaching her target and has achieved an amazing 54.6% of her target at this early stage! Lily read a fantastic 44,624 words this week, which I was really impressed by. Well done Lily, keep up the super reading!

Annie Smith has also been working steadily towards reaching her target and has achieved 33.6% of her target. I can see Annie worked hard this week and read a book with over 30,000 words in it, well done Annie!

Eabhí Woods has been working really hard at home with her reading. Eabhí has also been trying out books that aren’t on the system simply because she enjoys reading them so well done Eabhí!! I hope you continue to enjoy reading!

This week, I really couldn’t decide between two pupils in Primary Six for the star reader award and it was between two girls again… I’ve noticed these two girls working hard on their Accelerated Reading each week and making it into most words read each week as well! Well done to ... Clodagh Gallagher and Tara Gray.

Clodagh Gallagher has achieved 91.3% of her target at this early stage by reading an impressive nine long books. I've noticed Clodagh’s percentage climbing every week! Keep up the fantastic work at home!

Tara Gray has also read an impressive nine long books and is on 69% of her target. Tara has almost read one million words this year, so I think this definitely deserves recognition!

I really enjoyed giving out all of these very deserving awards this week. If you haven’t appeared in this news article, I look forward to seeing your name popping up on my computer screen next week for great reading.

Stay safe everyone
