Young Enterprise Day

On Tuesday 24th March my class and I went to a Young Enterprise day which was held at the Seagoe Hotel, Craigavon.  Moy Park organized the event. When I arrived at school, I couldn’t wait to get there and neither could my friends. We ran onto the bus like a herd of Elephants! There were 21 of us and the bus was filled to capacity. Mrs Smith and Mr Hart came with us. I sat beside Emily wondering what the day had in store for us.

When we arrived at the venue, we jumped off the bus and ran up the steps. We had to get into groups of two or three. I was in a group with Emily and Pauric. We all got stickers that had Young Enterprise written on them and the number of our group. Our group number was 6. We went in to a sitting room which was full of children from 2 other schools. Then we were called into a large room with numerous tables spread out. We found our table and met the other schools we would be working with. There was Hannah and Jennifer from Edinderry Primary School Portadown, Ryan and Ryan from St John’s Primary School Moy and Amy-Leigh and Katie from Ballyoran Primary School, Portadown.

Our first task was to build a fictional healthy creature out of paper clips, balloons, tin foil, paper, ribbon, markers and other things. We made a pirate called PJ, short for Pirate Joe. He had a balloon body wrapped in tin foil and a balloon head with a paper plate face stuck on. He looked very creative. Then Ryan brought him up like everyone else.

Next a woman talked to us about healthy eating. She showed us the eat well plate. As time passed by we had a break and we had some  orange juice and fruit for refreshments.

Our second task was to make a poster about a chicken product we could make. Our groups’ idea was Chizza. Chicken with pizza toppings and served best with "minion chips". Our product was microwaveable and you could pick any toppings you liked. When we all were finished our posters, another lady talked to us about how Moy Park makes popcorn chicken and she showed us a slideshow of how it was made.

Finally, we had the prize giving session and we were delighted to find out that our group came 2nd for making the healthy creature! Our prize was a £5 voucher for any shop in Rushmere shopping centre Craigavon!!!  After all the prizes were given out, we had lunch which was obviously chicken, chicken and wedges with a glass of orange juice. When we had finished our lunch, Mr Hart told us to line up and so we hopped back onto the bus and headed back to school. We had a great day!
